Before becoming the residential area it is today, the Sparr Heights area in Glendale, California was primarily orchards and vineyards owned by William Sparr. Sparr later subdivided the land into residential lots in the 1920s.

The earliest homes in Sparr Heights were built in 1923. The area was developed in the early 20th century, with development picking up in the 1920s.
